Community Involvement

I remember when I was a kid there were several community organizations my dad’s employer would be involved with as a way to give back to the community. Employees were encouraged to participate, but it was led from the top echelon of the company. I’m glad to see that tradition continues on with small businesses and corporations alike. Even online businesses, like triangle direct media, find ways to interact with nonprofit organizations both local and international. It’s so encouraging to see others working to benefit their communities.

Seeing Straight

The older I get the more I need glasses just to see straight. If I’m not wearing my glasses I can’t read or work very well on my computer. I can see all right across the room, but not anything up close. For some reason I can’t focus very well anymore, which is what happens with age. I use glasses for both reading and distance. I have those bifocal lenses with the line that sometimes makes me look like an old person. Lately I’ve been thinking about trying those progressive eyeglasses. There’s no bifocal line at all. Most people use them because they probably just look better and it is nice not to have that line in your way. I’ll put it on my to do list.

You Better Shop Around

We had lunch with an old friend today who we haven’t seen since our wedding 13 years ago. She recently moved to the area for a new job and I warned her about our shocking summer weather. It’s only April and were already thinking of turning on the air conditioner!

Electric bills can go skyhigh when the temperatures rocket to the moon. Sometimes I wish we could shop around for lower cost electricity. I mean wouldn’t it be nice for those of us living in Phoenix to purchase nj electricity if they’re having a sale? Yeah, I know, probably not practical, but a girl can dream can’t she?

Running on Empty

It’s the end of the month and once again we are running on empty.  As the old saying goes there’s more month than money around here.  I was waiting on a small check to arrive today but it didn’t come so I’m hoping it will be here tomorrow.  In the meantime it would be nice to have a cash drawer where I can pull out an extra $20 now and then. I went outside and saw a puddle of red liquid where the van had been parked.  We just got the radiator replaced two months ago and we are still paying for that repair.  Looks like there’s more work needs to be done, but we can’t do anything about it until we get some money.  I’m starting to look for things around my house to sell.  Too bad that most of the good stuff got sold last year and the year before.  Need to find another source of income. Any ideas?

Blame It on the Weather

Do you ever meet people and think you know exactly what kind of job they would be good at? You meet someone at the grocery store and you see how friendly they are and they tell you to buy strawberries this week because their very ripe. Then you think to yourself, “now there’s someone who would make a good car salesman.” I don’t know if I’m gifted that way, but it sure would be nice to be able to go up to your friends and tell them what type of job they should be applying for. There’s this woman I know who would should be applying for Medical or Health Services Manager Jobs. She’s actually doing this type of job already for her parents and elderly aunts. She just doesn’t get paid for it. But I still think she should put it on her resume.

Youthful Energy

A friend was visiting today and we got to talking about her daughter who will be starting college next month.  She already has two jobs and will be starting a third one in addition to attending community college classes.  My friend commented how exceptional it was for her daughter to have three jobs when most people can’t even find one job today.  She wants to buy her daughter a digital camera.  Apparently the girl is really into Casio cameras, so my friend wanted to know if I knew of any Casio dealers in the area.  I suggested she just look on the Internet.  That’s usually how I find what I’m looking for.  I wonder if I can find youthful energy there?  I certainly need some.
