TV Cheats

One of the few programs I enjoy watching on PBS is Mystery.   It usually airs on Sunday evenings as part of the Masterpiece Theater schedule.   Norm introduced me to the likes of Inspector Morse and now we enjoy watching its spinoff series Inspector Lewis.   Other favorites include Inspector Lindley, Hetty Wainthropp, Miss Marple, Foyle’s War and of course Poirot.   There’s only one problem, it’s often difficult to understand the dialogue because of the heavy non-American English accents and idioms.   Fortunately there is an easy solution.   It’s called closed captioning and it works marvelously.   If you don’t get the gist of the conversation you can read along and easily figure out what’s going on.   I’ve also learned a new word or two as well along the way.

Mystery was one of the shows I always enjoyed on PBS. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years, I found I was watching almost no TV & finally called the cable company to shut it off (inas I am on DSL). Thus I miss a few things, but not very much.
