The Black Hole

Every home has one, you know, that place where things disappear in your house.   The black hole in our house is also known as Norm’s office.   Stuff happens to disappear in there more often than we’d like.   For example, a couple of months ago I wanted my USB flash drive.   USB flash drives are really cool and I got one a couple of years ago when I built my new computer.   Anyhow, I had loaned it to Norm several months back so I knew it must be in his office.   So I asked him for it and he began looking for it.   He searched high and low throughout the room but couldn’t find it.   We searched other parts of the house like my office area in the dining room but it was nowhere.   Well, after several days of searching for it I decided it was a lost cause and gave up.

The other day Norm and I were having a discussion about something on one of his computers.   I don’t remember what we were talking about, but all of a sudden he pulled on something that was underneath a stack of miscellaneous items.   He showed it to me and asked if this was the USB flash drive.   Yes!   There was almost in plain sight.   I guess that’s the way it is with black holes.   I’m so glad we found it.   Now if I could just remember what I needed it for…

I think the secret to all this is when you start searching for the thing that’s missing, forget it. You’ll find it next time when you’re searching for something else.
