Alarming
A few weeks ago someone came to our door selling home alarm systems. Recently, I began to ponder how nice it might be to have alarm systems for other aspects of one’s life. For instance, wouldn’t it be nice to have an alarm go off to warn you when you’re about to do something rather foolish? Certainly every marriage needs an alarm system for those times when you’re having an argument and you’re about to say something that you will regret later. How about an alarm for when you’re about to eat too many cupcakes? Yes, I could have used that last weekend.

There was such an alarm available just a few years ago. It was called “common sense.” Sadly, it was misnamed, as it is not that common and those who think they have it usually have no sense about it!
