When I Grow Up

What do you want to be when you grow up? When I was a kid I had visions of grandeur for myself. I wanted to be in business of some sort. I loved playing with the electric typewriter we had at home and pretending to be a business person. My little brother and I would play “office” the way some kids would play house. We would take old business cards and discarded business stationery and put our own names and made up logos on them. It was a blast!

As a young adult I went to college and studied business administration, eventually earning an MBA from San Diego State University. My disability got in the way so I never got to pursue my dreams of being the administrator or the boss. But I still like business and do enjoy going to office supply stores and looking at office furniture. Oh, wouldn’t it be wonderful to have my own office with beautiful furniture and a window with a fantastic view. That’s the stuff my dreams are made — sometimes.

I had always wanted to work at the United Nations, but these days it would feel like swabbing deck on a sinking ship.

Managed to learn a few languages, all for naught, apparently.
