Drug of Choice

Since 2001 I have been taking prescription medication for acid reflux disease. For about five years I took the most expensive medication on the market and was blessed to have a doctor who gave me free sample over the years. Then came Medicare part D. and my insurance provider covered it for about a year and then demanded that I changed to a less expensive drug. I looked at the options available and decide on Nexium. It actually worked better than the other drug so I was really happy.

It’s still expensive medication, even with prescription drug insurance, so I decided this year to do my own form of drug rehabilitation and take one of the over the counter medications.

Since February I have been taking Prilosec OTC. At first it seemed a good substitute because it was far less expensive and did the trick. But for the last few weeks I have been suffering from acid reflux symptoms, especially in the middle of the night. Then, about a week ago, I started getting heartburn in the middle of the day, which is quite miserable! Now I have returned to taking Nexium and I am completely symptom-free! I sleep better and I can eat whatever I want. I guess it’s my drug of choice since it’s the only one that does the trick for me.
