I Miss Them
I miss books. There was a time in my life when I was always reading a book, sometimes two or three at a time. Not so anymore. It’s been years since I read a novel and I really miss that. There’s something different about getting lost in a book that you just don’t get with watching a movie or listening to an audio book. Books are just too hard for me to deal with any more. Holding a book is hard when you don’t have much strength in your hands. I have used book holders in the past, but they don’t work that well. Maybe someday I’ll get back to reading books again. It’s nice having so much reading material available online, but sitting in front of a computer all day gets tiresome. I need to get one of those small electronic reading devices. So far I haven’t found one I like enough to shell out the big bucks. (dreaming…)
Maybe if the writers would use small easy to pronounce words, I will read to you.
Maybe I will just read to you.
I would love that.
Are you finding reading material online? Is there a site?
I dug into Google Books. While there is a lot of material, most of what I want is not available as a complete book.
So, it’s back to dead-tree editions, while I still can. It’s already impossible for me to read in bed, so the book must be in my lap. Or at the table.
Our local library system has e-books you can download but you can’t use them past 2 weeks.
What about books on tape? I have a friend who swears by them.
Your post makes my heart hurt for you. I can’t even think what it would be like not to be able hold a book. Hugs Karen.
I was going to suggest Audio books too, hopefully they are available from you local library.
GrannyJ: Audio books are ok, but I find it difficult to stay focused on them. I’m a visual learner so I like reading the written word rather than hearing it. Our library has audio books galore!
Vanda: hugs to you! I am kept very busy with stuff I do on the computer so I only miss books once in a while. =)
