Anniversary is Coming

Hi, it’s me, Mr. Karen…or to his friends just plain old Norm, punching away at the keyboard of my computer while Karen is doing something else.   I have to admit that I like writing her blogs for her.   Gives me a large audience.

Now I’m not going to say, click here , in order for you to see what I am blogging about.     You can, mind you, do so and it will take you somewhere, but I’m going to let you see pictures of me as a DANCER.

I have been uploading to my computer pictures that were taken by my Dad back in the late 1950s.   This picture was taken at a Square Dance at the Ride-N-Rock Ranch in Scottsdale.   My parents would spend several weeks there each year back then.   I would later attend Orme Ranch School that was between Scottsdale and Flagstaff.

Well here I am dancing away.

Had I not found the picture in over 500 35 mm slides that my brother found and brought over here, I would not remember dancing the night away.

In the morning I needed rest.

Our anniversary is coming up. I loved to dance the night away with Karen.

Holiday Memories

Today I woke up thinking about holidays past.   My mind wandered back to the late 1970s.   My family took a Branson vacation and visited my grandparents who lived in southern Missouri just outside of Springfield, not far from Branson.   They had a farm with about 58 acres along the James River.   It was their retirement home, but they were anything but retired.   My grandmother stayed busy during the holiday season making crafts and cooking up all sorts of goodies for the grandkids to enjoy.   Grandpa kept busy with his 1 acre produce garden and his horses.   By wintertime they had already sold off the cattle he raised during the year, so grandpa had lots of time to spend with his grandchildren.   We always had a blast visiting all the cousins and grandparents farm.   And of course, there would be trips to Branson to see the variety of entertainment available there.   Oh what memories!

The Finer Things

The other day we were out somewhere and I saw an elderly woman who reminded me of my mother-in-law. Madeleine passed away a few years ago and I have many wonderful memories of her. She was a refined woman with a great sense of humor and a kind and generous heart. Whenever we would go to her home for a visit she loved to set the table for have tea or invite us over for dinner. She liked using her best China and monogrammed silverware. Fine linens by matouk graced her table. With all these one would think that she was a snobbish person, but that was far from the truth. Good manners and fine things were just a natural part of her life. Sometimes my husband and I really miss her.

Not so Ancient History

Many of my Facebook friends are people I went to high school with back in the day.   Since I went to high school in southern Louisiana, and now I live in Arizona, I have not seen any of my high school friends since we graduated.   Every once in a while someone will post a photo from our yearbook or mention that they visited our alma mater or that their kids go there.   It makes my mind wander back to those days of yore.

Although there were good times, I can’t say I really liked high school all that much.   I was fortunate that I had some good friends who looked beyond my differences.   Some of my friends want to go back to high school days because they miss being 17, but I cannot say the same.   Although, it might not be so bad now that there is prescription acne medication.   Oh, the trauma of having a pimple on your nose on the day of the big dance.   Now that I think about it, that’s probably a lot less stressful than dealing with a mortgage and monthly bills and wondering how you are going to pay for everything with the little that you get each month.   Maybe high school wasn’t so bad after all.

Elvis

This morning I (Norm) read a news story about Elvis on Fox News.   This afternoon while looking at the Internet, I came across, by accident,   http://www.colonixreview.net. Amazing Internet.

As a   DJ from the 60s, I played the records of Elvis, but to be honest, I was not a big fan.   I worked at a rock station, and I had to follow what is called a “Hot Clock” which listed what types of songs you played at what time of each hour.   And back then the “Charts” were full of Elvis songs and I had to play them, even if I didn’t personally like them.

Over the years, I did grown to appreciated his talent.   There is no question that he was the K I N G.

Better Safe than Sorry.

I, Norm, have all ways been a person who has felt it is better to be safe than sorry.   I’m not one who will take chances on anything.

Yes I have had a gun pulled on me when I was a reporter for a radio station back in Denver.   Apparently the individual who pulled the gun on me, didn’t realize that I had a radio in the car and could call for help.   The radio was there to go on the air, but I was also able to talk with the radio studio who made the call to police.

Here at home now days there is always the Internet and you can even check   on a diet pill side effect.

What was funny about having the Gun drawn on me was for nothing, I just drove by the man’s car and there it was smack dab in my face.     (I was gone faster than you can say…..”I is out of here!”)
