Good Films

My favorite way of resting on the weekends is watching old movies.   This weekend I watched Devotion, a movie about the Brontë sisters, starring Olivia de Havilland   and An Affair to Remember, which starred Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant.   There’s just something relaxing and comforting about watching an old film, especially classics.   Even if I’ve seen them many times before, it’s always good to spend time with an old friend.   I enjoy most anything with Myrna Loy, Deborah Kerr, Olivia de Havilland or Bette Davis.   What great actresses they were and they usually starred in classic, timeless stories.   It doesn’t matter if you have an old TV or one of those brand-new plasma tvs, a classic is still a classic and very much enjoyable.

Reality Angst

Reality TV programming has been around for quite a while now.   In the beginning it seemed to be about contests like Big Brother and Survivor.   In the past couple of years it has become a staple in cable TV programming with shows following the lives of “ordinary people” living a different kind of life.   Jon & Kate Plus Eight became a

Makeover Makeover

I enjoy watching TV and one type of programming I enjoy is makeover shows.   Sometimes its makeovers of the way women look.   You know where they take a woman and they get new clothes that fit them properly and their hair and makeup is changed to suit their face.   It’s fun to see the transformation and most of the time the woman looks a lot better afterward.

Star Trek Movie Review

Last week Norm and I saw Star Trek movie and it was so much better than I expected.   I’ve been a fan of Star Trek since I was probably five years old.   I remember watching it with my dad on Saturdays.   Something about space exploration and technology fascinated me to no end.   The new Star Trek movie goes back to the beginning when Kirk and Spock and McCoy, et al. met and began their adventure in space.   I don’t want to spoil it for anybody so I won’t talk a lot about what actually happened in the film.   There were some interesting scenes and one that I recall was a young Kirk riding on a very special motorcycle.   He was quite a reckless youth and there were moments when I was sure he was going to crash.   You never know, it could have happened, and then he would’ve needed to find a San Jose motorcycle accident attorney.   All right enough of that.

The movie was very well made and the story kept me interested from beginning to end.   There were a few things that bugged me about the storyline, but by the end I figured out why the story transpired the way it did.   I wanted to see it again right after which is really unusual for me.   It was that good of a movie.   I give it five out of five stars!
