So I’m getting dressed and into my wheelchair in the morning. I look up at the ceiling and notice a small gecko crawling around. I keep tabs on him throughout the morning and then forget all about him until bedtime. I don’t see him anywhere. I wonder where he went? Let’s just hope it wasn’t in our bed.

Lifelong Learning
August 15, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale
Ever since I can remember I’ve been fascinated with watching people make things. I like to know how things are made and see the tasks involved from the beginning to the end. It just so happens that one of my favorite television programs is How It’s Made on The Science Channel. I love how they use cad drawings in the program’s opening sequence. Whoever came up with this concept is very creative. The other day I learned how whistles, fiberglass boats and toilets are made. I suppose someday this knowledge may come in very handy.

The Finer Things
August 15, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale
The other day we were out somewhere and I saw an elderly woman who reminded me of my mother-in-law. Madeleine passed away a few years ago and I have many wonderful memories of her. She was a refined woman with a great sense of humor and a kind and generous heart. Whenever we would go to her home for a visit she loved to set the table for have tea or invite us over for dinner. She liked using her best China and monogrammed silverware. Fine linens by matouk graced her table. With all these one would think that she was a snobbish person, but that was far from the truth. Good manners and fine things were just a natural part of her life. Sometimes my husband and I really miss her.

Procrastination
August 15, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale
So, I’m sitting here at my desk and looking at the piles of papers everywhere. It seems that I like to write notes on little slips of paper, but then I do not do anything with them. They begin to pile up. Then there are papers that come in the mail that I need to review and they end up scattered around the desk. Something tells me I need to find a document management system. Maybe I just need to clean my desk once in a while? Yes, I should do that, but I think I’ll get to it later.

Please, Get him out of the House
August 13, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale
It’s been a few years since my husband Norm retired. Would someone please let him in on the best franchise opportunities out there so that I can get him out of the house.
There’s no question that he’s a nice guy and we have fun together, but I sure would like to have some time to myself so that I can work on my top secret projects.
Norm just loves to look on the Internet at amateur radios or video cameras and come running down the hall and tell me all about them. I mean every little detail and sometimes he even brings pictures.
Please, get him out of the house! {grin}

He’s thinking again
August 13, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale
Even with the temperature outside here in Scottsdale at 112, my husband was telling me how much fun it would be to have our patio expanded and an outdoor fireplace installed.
Our patio is simple, and has two fans so that we can at least attempt to cool it down a little during the summer months when we… I go outside. Norm, even though he talks about going out… stays inside more times than not.
It’s getting to that time of the year that after the sun does come down, being outside can be comfortable. That I really like. I wonder how serious he is about expanding the patio?

Season for sending cards is coming
August 13, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale
It won’t be long before Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be upon us. Usually I wait until early December to start thinking about holiday cards. Maybe this year I’ll be different? Maybe this year I’ll plan ahead and think about sending out cards long before the holidays?
Years ago I used to enjoy creating my own greeting cards. I would draw something cute and enhance it on the computer and then print it for my Christmas card. My family and friends enjoyed it. If I start now maybe I can come up with something for December. Let’s get our creative thinking cap on…

After Midnight and He Wore a Suit
August 12, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale
My husband Norm was an announcer in the 60s and 70s and even spent some time doing the all night show in Denver Colorado. The radio station was owned by a company that also owned a TV station and the radio studios were down in the basement of the building in downtown Denver.
Each night Norm told me he would arrive, wearing a suit, including a dress shirt and a tie. He would get there to go on the air at midnight, and by 1:30 AM, there was no one else in the building until about 5 AM. But Norm would sit there behind the radio console and microphone wearing his suit even though those listening on the radio could not see it.
Norm never wears a suit these days. I mean never. He does have one or two dress shirts in his closet, but when he considers shirts he only looks for mens polo shirts. He looks just as good as he did back then, just more casual.
