  1. Breakfast

July 30, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale

Are you a fan of breakfast?  I must admit that I am not.  Everyone says it’s the most important meal of the day, but I find that I’m not that hungry early in the morning.  Generally, I need a very small breakfast to keep me going until lunch.  My breakfast habits very according to my mood, but I’ll consistently take my vitamins.

This morning I had Trader Joe’s granola with almond milk instead of cow’s milk.  I don’t like regular milk nor do I like soy milk.  The other day I had red grapes and almond crackers with spreadable Swiss cheese.  Sometimes I enjoy pomegranate and blackberry yogurt with some crackers on the side.  Oh, I do enjoy scrambled eggs for breakfast once in a while too.

    What’s your favorite breakfast?

  2. Marriage Delegation

July 30, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale

I have plenty of things to keep me busy so I am happy that my husband, Norm, spends a lot of his time keeping the books, managing the accounts and paying the bills. When the mail comes, he’s the one that sorts out the bills and shows me all the junk mail.  We go through things together and if we decide we are interested in something he will follow up on it. He is the one who would look into such things as mortgage life insurance, auto insurance and all those other insurances a household needs to worry about.  I’m thankful that he’s willing to go through all that stuff because it’s nothing I would enjoy doing.  I think that’s one of the secrets to a happy marriage.

  3. He’s So Vain

July 30, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale

It was 45 years ago that my husband Norm, came to Phoenix to work on a Rock Station as a DJ, doing the 7 to Midnight Shift.  Believe it or not, I was just an infant back then.

A couple week ago he found out that several of the DJs he worked with are holding a reunion here in Phoenix and all he can think about is how he looks.  Before long he will be asking about phentermine, as he has added a few more pounds since 1965.

Back in those days he drove a yellow Corvette and he loves to tell me the story about when Leslie Gore came to Phoenix and she insisted on riding in his yellow Corvette from the airport to the concert venue.(Don’t tell him I said this… but I don’t think he could get behind the wheel of a yellow Corvette today.  Remember… mums the word.)

  4. Second Chances

July 30, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale

Patsy Grimaldi’s Pizza in Old Town Scottsdale is one of our favorite places to eat.  I think they have the best pizza I’ve ever had.  A couple of months ago we went there and had a bad experience.  We thought it was a fluke because 90% of the time it’s great.  We went back a week or so later and it was slightly better but not the best we knew it could be.  We decided to not go there for a month or two and then see what happens.

The other day I got a craving for their delicious pizza and so we decided to give them a second chance.  I’m so glad we did because it was delicious!  It tasted like the pizza we remembered and it was baked just the way we ordered it.

While we were there we ran into someone who works in the building.  We hadn’t seen her for several months and she was excited to see us.  I remarked that she looked great and asked if she had lost weight.  Thinking that she had found one of those diets that work, I was surprised when she told me what happened.  A couple months ago she had a severe gallbladder attack and after a several tests her doctor decided to remove the gallbladder.  She attributed her weight loss to dealing with the surgery and eating a lot better.

Note to self: eat better to avoid gallbladder surgery.

  5. In Which a Bad Experience Turns out Good

July 27, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale

So, I’m sitting in my cool air conditioned home (thank you, God, the AC works) on a very hot Scottsdale, Arizona afternoon sipping my favorite piña colada juice and recalling a crazy day we had last week.  It was in excess of 110° outside that late afternoon that The Man and I ventured out to do some late lunching and shopping.  After enjoying our lunch at Ruby Tuesday’s we drove to Target.  We probably spent an hour inside target looking for specific items we needed, but could not find, and grabbing a few groceries.

We headed out to the van and loaded up our items in the back.  We got inside and Norm tried to start the engine but it would not turn over because the battery was dead.  We rushed back inside (with some of the grocery items we purchased) where it was much cooler and called our emergency roadside service we pay extra for through our auto insurance plan.  It’s the first time we have ever had to use it.  We found out it was going to be almost an hour before someone could come to our rescue.

There happens to be a Starbucks inside of this Target store.  We decided to wait there since we could see out to the parking lot.  The employees kindly obliged my request to put my milk and cottage cheese in the refrigerator while we waited for help with the battery.  We spent the next hour people watching.  There was even a person at one of the tables with a laptop computer, which got me wishing I had an iPad or a netbook because it would have been a great time to read up on apidexin reviews.

Finally, we saw a tow truck pull into the parking lot and go near our van.  The service man was able to jumpstart our battery and we were on our way home.  Then I remembered that our battery was less than two years old and I purchased it at Wal-Mart when I was in California.  Norm decided we should head on over to Wal-Mart and see if we could get a new battery installed.  It was already after six o’clock so I was concerned that we might be too late to get it done that day.  We pulled into the auto service area at Wal-Mart at 6:45 PM and the sign said they closed at 7 PM.  To make an already long story short, they tested our battery and determined it was bad and replaced it under warranty for free!

So, what started out as a bad experience turned into something good.  Praise God!

  6. Oh What Joy

July 26, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale

A couple weeks ago an acquaintance of mine posted on twitter “it’s a boy!”  His wife had given birth to baby number seven at home.  How exciting!  I suppose it would have been a good time to give the father Padron cigars.  He could have passed them out via twitter.  Now that would be interesting to see.

Anyhow, I was privileged yesterday with the joy of seeing the new baby in person.  His mother held him up close to me.  I cannot hold babies because my arms are not strong enough.  He was sleeping and wrapped up in one of those swaddling blankets.  How precious he looked.  I could not resist lightly caressing his arm that hung down outside of the blanket.  He grabbed a hold of my finger and it was pure joy for me.

A single tear is slowly making its way down my cheek as I write this and recall yesterday.  I’ve never really had a strong desire to become a mother, but now and then I wish I was.

  7. The Waiting Game

July 26, 2010 by Karen of Scottsdale

Do you like to wait? I would guess the answer is probably no. Having to depend on others for most of my needs, it seems that I find myself waiting a lot. Right now I’m waiting on Norm to get ready so we can go out to eat. I cannot go into the kitchen and fix myself a sandwich or a snack, so my stomach growls. When I’m waiting I like to occupy myself with something to keep me busy and keep my mind off of hunger. I’ve been playing a stupid game on my computer for the last 30 minutes. Prior to that I was searching online for various and sundry things, like computer speakers or Amazon books. I’ve also been on Facebook and Twitter half a dozen times.

So, tell me, gentle reader, what do you do when you are waiting on somebody?

  8. Norm at the Keyboard.

    July 11, 2010 by azNorm

I’m back, sitting here at my computer keyboard as Karen is  involved with another project.  So that gives me the opportunity to write a post for her.  I like doing things for her, and I especially like doing things with her.  We have a lot of fun just doing the simplest of things.  We don’t have to do something spectacular to have fun.  And we talk to each other a lot.  I have to be honest, I do a lot of listening.  But there again, I really don’t mind.  In fact, kind of enjoy it. And I certainly enjoy her.
