It’s been so much fun watching the hummingbird nesting right outside my living room window. I’m calling her Tinkerbell because she’s just so tiny and so cute. Since I didn’t know much about hummingbirds, I went to the Google to get the scoop on their nesting habits. From what I read it seems the female begins building the nest during mating season. She mates with a lucky male hummingbird and then lays her eggs and finishes building the nest. The male hummingbird does not take part in building the nest nor sitting on the eggs. (I wonder if they make tiny work gloves for hummingbirds?)
Norm set up our digital camera on a tripod and shot a short video of Tinkerbell on her nest. Don’t blink when you watch it or you will miss seeing another hummingbird join her to possibly inspect her nest. Norm thinks is her “husband” making sure she’s all right.

So I’m out in front of our house waiting for Norm to join me so we can go out for lunch. I noticed a hummingbird flying around so I watched it to see where it would land. Hummingbirds are so fascinating to me the way their wings flutter so fast like a helicopter. One would think they run on batteries. Anyhow, it landed in a low branch on our pine tree. This is the only low branch we have and I’d say it’s about 6 feet off the ground at the lowest point. It’s right in front of our living room window. As I continued looking at the hummingbird I realized he or she was sitting on a nest. I moved in closer trying not to disturb the tiny bird. Yes, it really was a nest. After we got home from lunch I went inside the house and looked out the front window to see if I could find the nest again. I got an even better view of it from inside the house as you can see below in the photograph taken by Norm. What a nice surprise. I wonder how long it will be before the baby birds hatch?

So I went to the dentist for the first part of a root canal procedure. It seemed like it took more shots than usual to get my mouth numb. I try to keep my eyes closed during the drilling and focus my mind on other things because I hate the sound of the drill. What can I think about? Do I need to get anything at the grocery store? Are there any wedding gifts I need to buy this year? Whose birthday have I forgotten? When will they finish this drilling? On and on and on the drilling sound goes making my mind so numb I can hardly think.
Finally, it’s over and I leave with a very numb tongue and lips. So much for an enjoyable lunch. There’s a milkshake with my name on it somewhere.

For as long as I can remember I’ve always been a smiler. When I make eye contact with people I just naturally smile and it’s amazing how disarming it can be to total strangers. Smiling can be a secret weapon when you’re in a tense situation as well. I think smiling is great because it shows people that you are content. Most people like being around someone who is content and so smiling can be contagious. The only drawback to smiling is the wrinkles you get around your eyes. I’m sure there are natural wrinkle treatments available for those who are bothered by them. Fortunately, I’m not one of those people. I’m going to keep smiling and everyone will know when they see the telltale evidence around my eyes.

During the night I woke up to the sound of rain on the roof. I had no idea it was going to rain last night so it caught me by surprise. It rained a good while, and although it kept me awake, it was a pleasant sound. If you live in the dry desert country you come to appreciate rain. It doesn’t take much for you to notice the change in humidity either. Occasionally I’ll wake up and feel like I need to start using a joint supplement due to the slight pain humidity can bring to the joints, especially if it’s cold. Fortunately today was not cold, although it was cooler temperatures than we’ve had lately. The sun finally came out but it was five o’clock in the afternoon and not a good time to sit outside for sunning. My cat, Miss Ellie, was smart and spent the day curled up on my bed. She went out a little while ago to get some fresh air which seemed like a good idea to me too.

Have you ever looked in one of those five times magnification mirrors? I have one and I dared to look at my face in it the other day. Oh what a dangerous thing to do. I mean, there is adult acne that one has to deal with but, when a woman reaches 40 something, there are things on her face that she NEVER thought would be there. Fortunately, those things only show up in a five times magnification mirror and my husband doesn’t notice those horrible flaws on my face.

Last week we had very warm and beautiful weather all week, so Norm and I went to our local park three days in a row toeat lunch, feed the ducks and enjoy the great weather. We went again today and it was just perfect out. We grabbed some lunch and ate it at the park. Other people had the same idea as we saw several couples and singles enjoy a short time at the park. Quite a few other people must’ve been thinking about fat burners because they were jogging or riding their bikes during their lunch hours. Some even were walking their dogs.
Most of the ducks we saw were napping, but a few of them were getting busy with springtime activity. As we were getting ready to leave I saw a pair of geese in the pond mating. They were quite proud of their achievement and danced around when they were finished. Usually when I see ducks or pigeons mating at the park they don’t get all excited about it. Geese are different I guess. Oh the joys of spring time.
