When I was a kid I spent a lot of time laying around pondering things. I was convinced my cat could talk but I just wasn’t able to understand her. Perhaps she spoke to other cats when I wasn’t around? I also wondered if there would be animals in heaven. Yes, I had very strange ideas as a kid. I even thought rubber stamps were simply re-usable postage. After all, rubber bands were reusable binders. My favorite was the bogeyman. Wasn’t he that guy who came around and put things in your nose when you were sleeping?

Just read a great commentary on Obama’s criteria for Supreme Court nominations. My favorite part:
President Obama wants the law to favor some over others, based on a very subjective standard – a sentiment, really – of who should win and who should lose. This view is deeply unwise and unjust. Republicans and conservatives ought to say so, and they ought to explain why it is so.

Politics is something I’ve been interested in since high school and I’ve always enjoyed being involved with the latest political discussions. This blog has been an outlet for much of that discussion over the years, but lately I have been in a political depression, or as I like to call it, doldrums. It seems that everything has gone upside down politically. The other day I turned on the radio to listen to my favorite political analyst, but I had to turn (more…)

I’m thankful to those who paid the ultimate price for my liberty.
Having a lazy day with Norm. Missing my family who are in San Diego. Heading to DQ with Norm for a cool treat then home to watch b&w WWII flicks.

When I started junior college I was fortunate enough to attend a school that had a great program for disabled students. One of the programs they offered was adapted physical education. I had taken adapted PE in high school, but it was not very fun and rather limited. (more…)

Typically I don’t drink a lot of soda, but now and then I really enjoy the taste of a Pepsi or Coke, especially when it’s a hot day like today is. It’s only May but we’re already 13 or 14 days straight with triple digit temperatures. Anyhow, I’ve seen those commercials for Pepsi Throwback and decided to give it a try. I really like it! Let me say that again — it’s delicious. It reminds me of the way Pepsi tasted back in the day when you could buy a small glass bottle of it for ten cents. Imagine that — just one dime. I don’t think there’s anything you buy at the store these days for that price.
At first I couldn’t figure out what makes it so good, but then I realized it’s the sugar. They’re using regular sugar instead of corn syrup to sweeten it. I thought it would taste sweeter but it’s actually less sweet than regular Pepsi that you buy today. No wonder I always drink Pepsi or Coke with a lime or lemon wedge. It cuts the sweetness of the corn syrup. With Pepsi Throwback I don’t need to add a lime because it’s just the right flavor as it is — not too sweet.
The only disappointment is that it will only be available for a limited time. Please, Pepsi Co., consider making Pepsi Throwback available permanently.

Last week Norm and I saw Star Trek movie and it was so much better than I expected. I’ve been a fan of Star Trek since I was probably five years old. I remember watching it with my dad on Saturdays. Something about space exploration and technology fascinated me to no end. The new Star Trek movie goes back to the beginning when Kirk and Spock and McCoy, et al. met and began their adventure in space. I don’t want to spoil it for anybody so I won’t talk a lot about what actually happened in the film. There were some interesting scenes and one that I recall was a young Kirk riding on a very special motorcycle. He was quite a reckless youth and there were moments when I was sure he was going to crash. You never know, it could have happened, and then he would’ve needed to find a San Jose motorcycle accident attorney. All right enough of that.
The movie was very well made and the story kept me interested from beginning to end. There were a few things that bugged me about the storyline, but by the end I figured out why the story transpired the way it did. I wanted to see it again right after which is really unusual for me. It was that good of a movie. I give it five out of five stars!
