Is it just me or does everyone else get really nervous when you see someone driving and they’re not looking at the road but they’re looking at the passenger they are talking to? Lately while watching TV or movies whenever there’s a car scene I just want to yell at the actor behind the wheel and tell them to keep their eyes on the road because they seem to be more focused on the person in the passenger seat. Okay rant is over now.

I Could’ve Had a V8
April 30, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
Remember that commercial for V-8 tomato juice where people knock themselves in the head and exclaimed I could’ve had a V8? Well I kind of feel that way about my purchase last December of a Palm TX. I’ve been using a PDA for several years and decided to upgrade my Palm M515 by purchasing the TX because of its built-in WiFi. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out the way I had hoped.
Recently I came across information about netbooks. A netbook is a small version of a laptop computer. It pretty much works like a PDA, but makes it easier for Web surfing and e-mail because of a larger screen and full keyboard interface. When I got to looking at them I realized that I could’ve purchase one of those for a little more than what I spent on the Palm and gotten a much better and more usable portable computing device. Oh well — that’s the problem with ever-changing technology. Sometimes you think you are moving forward but in reality you are moving two steps back.

The Ex Is Coming
April 30, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
There are some people who probably would never get together again if there were not for the ease of making connections through the Internet. Long before I ever met Norm he lived quite an exotic life as a rock ‘n roll DJ. This was of course during the 60s when I was a wee little baby. Because of his blog, people from his past who knew him as a DJ have contacted him. Several were young women smitten by his baby face looks and deep voice. One such woman, who is in fact an ex-girlfriend, reached out through the Internet and made contact over a year ago. She and her husband live in Denver but will be traveling to Puerto Rico for a cruise and then coming to Arizona on their way back to Denver. We’re going to try to get together for dinner while they are in the area. Should be fun.

Memories That Stick
April 30, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
The other day I saw a friend’s photo from her wedding album. She’s about 10 years older than me, so the wedding was in the mid-1970s. It was funny to see her and her husband way back when — long before I ever knew them. Of course, like most people, they wore formal wedding attire. The the bride wearing her white bridal gown and the groom in a white tuxedo. It reminded me of my own wedding photo. And when I think about it it’s the only time I’ve ever seen my husband in a tuxedo and the only time he’s ever seen me in a formal gown. That image of us will be forever stuck in my mind. I like memories like that.

Monday Happenings
April 27, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
Our usual Monday routine took place today. Norm takes his walk in the morning while I check/update e-mail, Facebook and Twitter. He does similar when he returns from his walk. Sometimes we talk about the day’s agenda as well. On this particular day we head to an appointment with our local chiropractor.
After my neck and his back are massaged and adjusted, we head to lunch. Sometimes we debate over where to go, but today we decided we needed to visit our friend Samantha at Red Robin North Scottsdale.
Since the weather was quite comfortable today and much better than last week, we sat out on the patio. We were the only people on the patio. It was clean and tidy. We had a nice visit with Samantha in between her serving other tables. She’s sweet and fun to chat with.
Aside: I wonder if they use patio furniture covers? Perhaps they have someone clean off all the chairs and tables before the restaurant opens. It seems like our patio furniture is always dirty. That’s what happens when you live in a very dusty and dry environment.
We returned home and I finished up some work on various projects. It seems I’m always working on various and sundry projects. Most of them are top secret, so I won’t divulge anything here.
Now I am thinking about dinner and what we will watch on TV this evening. I just looked at TV Guide online and it will be a full lineup for us. House at 7 PM, 24 at 8 PM and then CSI: Miami at 9 PM. I’m hoping we get to bed between 10:30 and 11 PM. Perhaps tonight I won’t have as many strange dreams as I did last night. It’s funny how they are so vivid in your mind when you first wake up but by this hour of the day they are so fuzzy you could begin to explain it to anyone. Sigh.
So what is your Monday like?

Wild Kingdom
April 25, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
While reading the paper this afternoon, online of course, I ran across an intriguing headline: “Mutual of Omaha, Oprah spar over ‘aha moment’.” This of course I had to read. Whenever I think of Mutual of Omaha I instantly remember Marlin Perkins and Wild Kingdom. After I read the article I realized this was not for purposes of insurance lead generation. Nope, I doubt if Marlin Perkins ever met a more cunning lioness than the Oprah, Queen of Talk Shows. Good luck, Omaha.

Dinning Conversation
April 23, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
We dine out a lot and thus we get to know a lot of restaurant staff. We usually end up striking up a conversation with them. We have talked about any and everything under the sun. Lately it seems like we talk about what they’re studying in school and what they want to do upon graduation which is fast approaching. Most people are concerned about the job market with today’s economy. Journalism probably isn’t the best major to have right now with all the newspapers laying off reporters, but I don’t think people are too worried about jobs in IT.
Tonight Norm and I will be attending the simulcast of Dave Ramsey’s Town Hall for Hope. I look forward to hearing his perspective on our current economic situation. Personally I would rather not participate in the recession. Perhaps he will have some good advice on that.

I’m All a Twitter
April 21, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
It’s been four years since I started blogging and now I’m finding Twitter is getting me more followers than blogging ever did. I’m not going to give up blogging, but this Twitter thing is a whole world of its own. Karl Rove and Mitt Romney are now following me on Twitter and I couldn’t be more excited. Sure, Mitt’s probably not going to invite me over to dinner, and Karl probably won’t direct message me regarding his next Fox News appearance, but I’ve got a certain kind of access that is more than just e-mail. The new social media technology is definitely making the world smaller and smaller. I’m on Twitter because I want people to follow me, and when they do I think it’s cool, unlike Megan McCain who thinks it’s creepy. I think she just doesn’t get Twitter.
