Went to lunch at our favorite place (Red Robin) today to see our favorite waitress (Samantha). She is such a sweetheart and loves it when we make a special trip to see her now that she’s at a different Red Robin restaurant.
Somehow we got on the subject of high school. It seems she was born the same year I graduated high school. Yikes! Next thing you know I’ll be shopping for eye cream and face serum and all that other stuff one wears to keep looking younger.

San Diego is a place I think about often. My parents live there, my brother and his family live there, as well as a whole host of extended relatives and good friends. Part of my heart is there although my home is here with Norm and so much of my heart is here too. I try not to think about wanting to go visit until I know we are ready do it. Lately that’s been difficult though because it seems like everyone I talk to is planning a trip to San Diego.
Thursday evening I got together with four other lady friends, three of whom I have not seen in several months. One of them shared with me that her son will be doing his residency at UCSD Medical Center and she is so excited because it will mean they can visit him on weekends. I wonder what San Diego hotel they like to stay at?
Then today while at lunch with friends after church, they shared with me plans for a weekend getaway to Southern California, including San Diego. So, no matter how hard I try I just can’t seem to get away from thinking about visiting San Diego. I must admit it’s the only place I go when I leave home.

Last year a friend was telling me about remodeling she had done on her kitchen. New granite countertops with an undermount sink, new cabinets with wine racks and upgraded lighting were among her favorite aspects of the redesign. Since I don’t spend much time in our own kitchen, I began to ponder what would my dream kitchen look like? Would I choose wallpaper or paint? Granite countertops or marble? The more I thought about it the more I realized my dream kitchen would have one thing — a very good chef.

An avid fan of Gmail and now a big fan of Gmail video chat. I’ve been using it for several months and think it’s the bomb! (Yeah, I can’t believe I said that either.) My mother and I enjoy using video chat to stay in touch. My folks are in San Diego and I’m here in Scottsdale, but with video chat it feels like we’re in the same room almost.
Mom got a laptop for Christmas with built-in WiFi and WebCam. I taught her how to use Gmail and its video chat service. We use it as often as we can. She sits in the dining room with her laptop and, while she and I are conversing, I can hear my dad talking from the living room. It’s like I’m right there and it feels nice to be able to share a few moments with them. If the lighting isn’t just right, mom will open her cheap blinds on the big picture window next to the table so I can see her better. Sometimes she turns the laptop around so I can see my dad on the other side of the table in the living room. Cool. We live in a great age!

When I’m working at my computer I enjoy listening to music. Sometimes it’s classical Baroque, jazz, or instrumental, and other times it’s contemporary Christian artists. A few months ago I started noticing one of the speakers hooked up to my computer wasn’t working all the time. (more…)

For most of my life I’ve been an observer. I like to watch what’s going on around me and I’m very aware of my environment. I notice things, sometimes things other people don’t notice and would rather I didn’t. I can’t help it — I’m just observant. Maybe it was that morning we had a fire drill in third-grade and our teacher urged us to always pay attention to the exit signs so we would know how to get out of a building in case of fire. Or, maybe it was this book from my childhood that inspired me? To this day I enjoy observing. Wish I could find a way to make money at it…
