Football is not something I typically watch. If I’m at someone’s home and they have the game on I might look and seem interested for a little while, but it’s just not a game I really get into. Except during the playoffs I might watch a little bit especially if the Arizona Cardinals or the San Diego Chargers are playing. Those are the only games I’m really interested in knowing about because I live in Scottsdale, Arizona and I used to live in San Diego and still visit family there. (more…)

Necessary Pleasures
January 17, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
There are some things in life that are just necessary and yet they are also pleasurable. Take for instance pedicures. Healthy feet need good hygiene. I’m not able to trim my own toenails or exfoliate my feet because of my limited mobility. Therefore I make it a habit to get a pedicure now and then. I have found a wonderful person, Suzanne, a.k.a. the Nail Goddess, who gives the best manicures and pedicures in all of Scottsdale. I went in the other day and she made my feet feel wonderful. Now I must admit that sometimes I don’t enjoy the entire pedicure process, but that’s only because I have very sensitive feet. Suzanne does her best to keep me comfortable. For that I am most grateful.
I’ve known Suzanne for probably two years. Whenever I get a manicure or pedicure we usually talk quite a bit but sometimes it’s just a good time to be quiet. During my pedicure I can reflect on many things. As I enjoy soaking my feet in a warm bath my mind wanders. Sometimes I think about projects I need to complete or fun activities I want to do with Norm. Other times I think about random stuff like fuel gauges, tape drives, HDTV and the latest fashions in shoes. Yes, I have a weird brain.
So, what would you think about during a pedicure?

Am I a Victim?
January 17, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
The other day I received an e-mail from the Scottsdale public library telling me that books I checked out were overdue. Right away I knew something was wrong because I haven’t been to the library in over a year. I looked at the titles of the books and realized they were books I would’ve never checked out. I called the library to report the error. They removed the books from my record, but their explanation for what happened doesn’t make any sense. My library card is in my possession and my name is not one that somebody else could mistakenly use since I have two last names. They told me that I probably had used self check out and didn’t take the receipt thus enabling someone to come behind me and check out books under my account. Since I haven’t been to the library in over a year that is impossible. Weird. They offered no other explanation and didn’t seem to think it was a big deal.
Am I a victim of identity theft at the library? I suppose it could’ve been worse. Someone could have hacked into my bank account and spent what little money I have on discount furniture.

We Brought this on Ourselves
January 17, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
Thank God everyone on board US Airways plane survived! Now it’s time for some comic relief:
In the wake of the events of 1-15, in which a wedge of Geese brought down a US Airways aircraft, here’s what you won’t be hearing about from the so-called “Mainstream Media”: We brought this on ourselves.
After an event such as this one, it’s important to look at the root causes: Why did the Geese attack us? Well, the truth is, for years we have been oppressing the Geese, using them for the fuel they provide for our bodies.

A Sign of the Times
January 14, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
A few months ago Norm and I started attending a new church. We found one in our neighborhood that we like. In an effort to get to know people we attended the men’s and women’s Bible studies this evening. A friend of ours, R, has been attending church with us for the past few months. We don’t usually sit together but we often talk together in the lobby after church. Tonight R and I were at the women’s Bible study together. (more…)

High-Tech Nightmare
January 8, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
So I’m going through the living room just now and the TV was left on after Norm finished watching the 10 o’clock news. There’s nothing scarier than seeing Jay Leno in HD. Yikes! I knew HD was supposed to be different, but this could possibly make me rethink my viewing choices.

Opening the Packages
January 8, 2009 by Karen of Scottsdale
For Christmas Norm gave me some nice gifts. One I picked out myself, a new Palm TX, and two others he surprised me with, a Hello Kitty doll and a dainty little bracelet from Tiffany’s. He scored good on those gifts.
I’ve been using a Palm m515 for several years as a sort of organizer, e-book reader and game player. It’s gotten old and I wanted something newer with more features. My new Palm has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth so it’s going to enable me to do some interesting things. Only problem is it’s difficult to use when you’ve only got one hand that works well. Looking for something like a rackmount monitor device that I could attach to my wheelchair to hold the Palm TX for me while I use it. Haven’t come across anything useful yet, but perhaps someone out there knows of something?
So what did you get for Christmas?
