Happy Birthday to Me

Yes, today was my birthday. I’m officially older. It was a very strange birthday for me. I woke up this morning to my husband singing “happy birthday” in his best imitation of an operatic voice. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Norm sing that way before. (And if he waits another year before he does it again, I won’t be disappointed.)

A phone call this morning alerted us to the disappointing news that our van won’t be ready until probably Friday. We had to return the rental van yesterday afternoon. So today we used Dial-a-Ride. Definitely an experience, but all in all not too bad.

I would’ve just stayed home but I had a coupon to get a free burger on my birthday at Red Robin and I couldn’t pass that up. The bus was supposed to pick us up at 1:10 p.m. to take us to the restaurant. It was almost 1:30 p.m. before he showed up. We loaded on the bus and then as I’m giving him directions on how to get to the restaurant, the driver tells us he has to pick up another wheelchair passenger. So we go a few miles and picked up a gentleman near the Scottsdale Stadium. Then we head to Red Robin. It was 2 p.m. before we got there. I’m glad we didn’t have anyone waiting on our arrival.

We had a really nice lunch including apple crisp for dessert, and the servers sang happy birthday to me. I even got my own balloon tied onto my wheelchair. After we enjoyed our meal we went outside to wait for the bus which was going to pick us up at 3:30 p.m. Low and behold the bus actually came 10 minutes early! It’s a good thing we went outside when we did.

Tonight we’re keeping it low-key and staying home to watch our favorite shows on TV. It’s been a good day!

As many of you know the Diamondbacks lost their chance to go to the World Series last night. Actually, I’m not that disappointed because now I don’t need to worry about getting world series tickets.

Happy Belated Birthday Karen! I was searching Red Robin online, and stumbled upon your website! You’re birthday was fun! Definitely one of the most memorable! I’m sorry getting there was such a drag, but I’m really glad we got to spend your birthday with you!
