30 Days to Live

What if you learned you had just 30 days to live? How would your life be different?

That is definitely a thought-provoking question and one that I’m glad I am not literally facing. However, if I was told that I have 30 days to live, I might make different choices with my time and relationships. What would you do?

Psalm 39:4-5 (NLT) says, “LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away. My life is no longer than the width of my hand. An entire lifetime is just a moment to you; human existence is but a breath.”

Meet My New Friend

This little frog was a gift from a six-year-old girl at church named Alexi. She came to talk to me a couple of weeks ago after church and showed me this frog she made during Kids Zone. On the back of it is a scripture verse which she read out loud to me: “I praise you God because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, I know that full well!” Psalms 139:14.

We talked about how well she read the scripture verse and about the frog. I told her I thought it was very cute and then she gave it to me. I thanked her and off she went. That afternoon we had our church picnic and Alexi’s grandmother, Loretta, came over to speak with me. Loretta told me she asked Alexi why she gave me the frog. Alexi told her, “I bet she doesn’t have any little kids in her life to give her gifts, so that’s why I wanted her to have something from me.”

Isn’t that the sweetest thing?

Dream On

Wienerschnitzel is one of my favorite fast food hangouts. We went there for lunch today to get my usual mustard dog, french fries and a Pepsi. Sometimes I mix it up and get relish on my hot dog. While we were sitting there enjoying our yummy lunch I noticed the paper liner on the serving tray. It said something about franchise opportunities available. Hmm… wouldn’t that be fun? (more…)

Exercise

Everyone says you should do it, but does anyone really enjoy it? Being unable to move about on my own, except when I’m in my motorized wheelchair, it’s hard to exercise. In fact I don’t own any fitness equipment. Well, let me take that back, Norm acts as a sort of fitness machine for me when he helps me move my arms and legs. I think he’s a lot more fun than a treadmill or a home gym. Because he lifts me every day in and out of my wheelchair, I guess I act as his fitness equipment too. Sometimes it’s a lot of fun. Sometimes it’s just mediocre. Sometimes I’m sure he would rather not have to do it at all. And, sometimes I feel the same way. Such is life and somehow we muddle through it.

Popcorn

A couple of weeks ago Norm and I did something a little unusual for us. There was a movie on TV we wanted to watch and I suggested we pretend we were at the movies. So we turned off all the lights and watched TV in the dark. It was fun and the only thing that was missing was the popcorn. There’s nothing like movie theater popcorn, so I don’t even bother fixing it at home. Perhaps we should get one of those home theater popcorn machines?

Wind Whipped

Today was our church picnic and it was a beautiful, cool afternoon except for the 20 mile an hour wind gusts. We had a blast eating hot dogs, hamburgers and an assortment of side dishes. (more…)
