  1. The Man Who Runs America

September 29, 2007 by Karen of Scottsdale

It seems that House Democrats are considering a resolution to reprimand Rush Limbaugh for suggesting there are phony soldiers criticizing the war in Iraq.  Have they got nothing better to do?  Rush Limbaugh is a defender of all the true soldiers in this country and the Democrats in Congress have done nothing but criticize and accuse and malign the American soldier.  Rush is right, there are lots of phony soldiers out there claiming to have been in the Iraq war, or other wars, and wear medals they have not earned, only to be outed as people who have never served or were kicked out of the military during boot camp.  In fact, last December Congress passed the Stolen Valor Act to allow prosecution of people who claimed medals that they had not earned.

Well, if Rush can endure the media humiliation he received while undergoing drug treatment for his addiction to painkillers, then I’m sure he can endure anything House Democrats want to throw at him.  After all, he is the man who runs America!  (I’m only kidding.)

  2. Laughing Out Loud

September 29, 2007 by Karen of Scottsdale

It is true that Norm and I enjoy watching TV.  Now that the new season has started we have been going through the listings and determining what shows we want to watch.  One of the new shows this season is Back to You on Fox network.  It stars Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton among others.  We missed the first episode last week but we did see the one this week and it was hilarious!  We were laughing out loud through the whole show.  We laughed so hard we had tears in our eyes.  It’s a good thing we have good bladder control or we might need to wear protective underwear next time we watch it.

Oh, by the way, it seems that Fox  lets you view the episodes you missed right over the Internet.  I’m going to give it a try.

  3. Friday Night Fun

September 29, 2007 by Karen of Scottsdale

Last night we went to Wienerschnitzel with our friends TnT.  We laughed our heads off and had so much fun!  We hadn’t been able to go out with them for several weeks because Terry got a new job a couple of months ago and he’s been traveling a lot on business.  Terry has a birthday this week so last night we wanted to give him a gift.  I had these supercool looking, fat ballpoint pens that a drug rep gave us while we were in the waiting room at the doctors office.  Now that Terry’s a “big wig” in the corporate world he needs to have big pens to impress his clients!  He thought it was really funny and it turns out that he likes super cool looking, fat pens.  I could have given him personalized pens.  Maybe next year?

  4. Shopping Fun

September 29, 2007 by Karen of Scottsdale

Last July when I went to San Diego to visit my family for a week, my mother and I went shopping. I don’t go shopping very much here because Norm doesn’t have the shopping gene. It’s always fun when mom and I go shopping. On this particular occasion we weren’t just shopping for ourselves because we had an assignment. A friend wanted to buy a gift for someone but he wasn’t able to go shopping himself so he asked us to do the errand for him. He wanted to buy a watch to give to a special friend. He told us to find something pretty and gave us a generous budget to work with. We looked at Timex, Citizen, and Skagen watches. It was very hard to decide. I don’t remember which one we chose but I found out later that the person who received the gift was quite pleased with our choice.

  5. Take Your Best Shot

September 29, 2007 by Karen of Scottsdale

Not long after Norm and I got married we bought our first digital camera, a Canon Powershot, which served us well for several years.  Last year Norm decided we needed a better camera since our first one was only 3.2 megapixels.  He looked around and decided to stick with the Canon Powershot brand.  He upgraded to a 6.0 megapixel camera and it definitely takes great pictures.  Now if I could just get him to take a good picture of me…

  6. Home-Improvement

September 29, 2007 by Karen of Scottsdale

One of my neighbors has put their house up for sale.  It seems they bought another house not too far from here that’s bigger and better.  I have discovered this week that humans aren’t the only ones interested in improving their real estate options. The other morning I sat on my front porch and watched the birds flying around the yard.  One in particular, a Verdin, was quite busy collecting pine needles.  He was building another nest in my pine tree.  He already has two nests, one of which I saw him build last spring, but this time he is building one even higher up in the tree.  I guess he likes the view from up there? What was most interesting was that he was taking bits and pieces from the other two nests to use as building material for the new one.  It was like watching an episode of This Old House where they are showing the homeowner how they can improve the quality of the home by using reclaimed flooring from another house.  Too funny!

  7. My Vegas Man

September 26, 2007 by Karen of Scottsdale

Many, many years before Norm and I ever met he used to live in Las Vegas.  He did a variety of jobs while he lived there including radio news reporter, TV anchor and two-way radio sales.  Not a day goes by that I don’t hear one of Norm’s Las Vegas stories.  Now I have never been to Las Vegas, so I find it fascinating to hear what life was like there back in the 1970s.  Because of Norm’s work as a news reporter he got to know a lot of people and was well acquainted with The Strip.  The other day I heard something about the Excalibur Las Vegas so I asked Norm, “have you ever been to that place?”  He replied, “I watched it being built.”  Yeah, he’s my Vegas man!

  8. Not Another One!

September 26, 2007 by Karen of Scottsdale

What is it about Hollywood types?  They seem to have no common sense at all.  I heard yesterday that Kiefer Sutherland, a.k.a. Jack Bauer, was arrested for DUI.  Why is it that some people seem to think it’s okay to drink and drive?  With all the money that some Hollywood stars make you would think they could afford a cab or to hire a driver instead of driving while intoxicated?  Perhaps he should try one of those alcohol rehabs.
